From the city of Salzburg to the Pinzgau: steel carports rated 250 kg/m², made in Völkermarkt and installed by our own crew at fixed zone prices.

The province of Salzburg stacks its winter by altitude. In the city and the Flachgau the snow is wet and heavy and rarely lasts; in the Tennengau around Hallein it becomes noticeably more alpine; and in the Pongau and the Pinzgau — Bischofshofen, St. Johann, Zell am See — a metre-deep snow pack is part of ordinary life from December onwards. A carport that is meant to stand here for decades needs more than the statics of a garden-centre kit. Every structure we build is designed for 250 kg/m² of snow load, in hot-dip galvanised S235 JRH steel with 85/280 trapezoidal sheeting in 0.75 mm, made in our own master metalworking business (Meisterbetrieb) in Völkermarkt in Carinthia.

Salzburg is also a province where a lot of people arrive from abroad — for work in the city, for the season in the Pinzgau, for a house near the lakes. If German paperwork is not yet your strong suit, this page gives you the practical outline in English, with the German terms in brackets so that you recognise them on the forms.

Snow load in an alpine province

The design figure of 250 kg/m² is calculated with reserve for the valley floors and the settled areas of the Tennengau, the Pongau and the Pinzgau. Snow at those altitudes is not only deep, it also compacts and takes on water during thaw periods, which is precisely when roofs fail. Where a house sits well above the valley floor — the isolated locations that are common in the Pinzgau — we look at the snow load individually rather than selling a standard structure: send the details through the custom carport enquiry and we will calculate it. How the loads themselves are derived is explained in the snow load guide.

Installation over the Tauern: zones 4 and 5

Our own crew installs throughout the province, and the price of that journey is fixed in advance by road distance rather than billed per kilometre. St. Johann im Pongau (170 km from the works) and Bischofshofen (180 km) fall in zone 4 at 450 € incl. VAT. Zell am See (205 km) and Hallein (225 km) are zone 5 at 700 €, and the city of Salzburg, a little further round over the Tauern, sits in the same zone. The surcharge is charged once per order, not per carport, and the whole province lies within our 350 km installation radius. Your binding zone appears as soon as you type your postcode into the installation page or a product page.

Building law: Salzburg does it its own way

Salzburg has its own building regulations, and they differ from the Carinthian and Styrian rules in both wording and thresholds. Depending on the roofed area and on the municipality, a carport is either subject to notification (Anzeige) or requires a permit (Bewilligung) — there is no single national figure that settles it. Clarify the classification with the building authority (Baubehörde) of your municipality (Gemeinde) before you order; in the city of Salzburg the Magistrat is responsible. Setbacks to the boundary and the local development plan (Bebauungsplan) apply in every variant.

This is a summary as at 2026 and without guarantee, and deliberately no more specific than that: we would rather you ask the Gemeinde than rely on a number from a website. What we can promise is the documentation — the dimensioned drawings and the technical data sheet with the 250 kg/m² design load come with every order, and our English guide to carport planning permission in Austria describes the usual procedure.

Prices, lead time and the installation day

The single carport measures 5.6 × 3.36 m and starts at 5,490 €, the double 5.6 × 6.15 m at 8,570 €, the three-space version 5.6 × 8.92 m at 11,540 €, each including 20 % Austrian VAT (USt). Installation is 2,750 to 3,850 € depending on the size, plus the zone surcharge described above. We manufacture to order, which takes approx. 4 weeks; then we agree a date and the crew normally finishes in one working day.

Before that day you prepare the foundations — point or strip footings to the plan we supply, set out in the foundation guide — and make sure a lorry can reach the site, which in the mountains is worth checking early. If you would rather organise the erection yourself, order the carport for delivery only; the assembly documents are included. All three sizes with full prices are on the carport overview, and questions about your own plot are welcome by phone or e-mail through the contact page.

Frequently asked questions

Carport Salzburg: questions & answers

What does carport installation cost in the province of Salzburg?

Installation is priced in fixed zones by road distance from the works in Völkermarkt. St. Johann im Pongau and Bischofshofen are zone 4 (+450 €); Zell am See, Hallein and the city of Salzburg are zone 5 (+700 €). The surcharge is added once per order to the installation price of 2,750 to 3,850 € depending on the size of the carport, all amounts including VAT. The product page shows your total after you enter the postcode.

Does the 250 kg/m² design cover the Pongau and the Pinzgau?

For the valley floors and settled areas of the Tennengau, Pongau and Pinzgau the design load of 250 kg/m² is calculated with reserve. For isolated locations well above the valley floor, which are common in the Pinzgau, we check the snow load individually — please use the custom carport enquiry in that case.

Do I need a permit for a carport in the province of Salzburg?

Salzburg has its own building regulations. Depending on the roofed area and the municipality a carport is either subject to notification (Anzeige) or requires a permit (Bewilligung), so clarify the classification with the building authority (Baubehörde) of your Gemeinde before ordering; in the city of Salzburg that is the Magistrat. Summary as at 2026, without guarantee. The dimensioned drawings and the technical data sheet for the file are included with every order.

Do you install throughout the province?

Yes — from the city of Salzburg and the Flachgau through the Tennengau to the Pongau and the Pinzgau, the province lies inside our 350 km installation radius, and the work is done by our own crew rather than a subcontractor. Depending on the road distance this is zone 4 or zone 5; the postcode check on the product page gives the binding answer for your address.

How long does it take, and what do I have to prepare?

Production in the works takes approx. 4 weeks, after which we agree an installation date; the installation itself is usually one working day. You prepare the foundations beforehand according to our foundation plan and make sure the site is accessible for a lorry. Everything else — steel, fixings, roof sheeting and the assembly documents — comes with the delivery.
