Carport Styria – steel from Carinthia, installed by our own team

Styria asks a carport to survive two different winters. In the Graz basin snow is comparatively rare, but when an Adriatic low pushes over the Koralpe it arrives wet and heavy and settles in a single night. In Upper Styria — the Mur and Mürz valleys around Leoben and Kapfenberg — winter is properly alpine and the snow pack simply grows from November to March. We build for the harder of the two cases and use the same structure for both: S235 JRH steel, hot-dip galvanised, 85/280 trapezoidal sheeting in 0.75 mm, designed for 250 kg/m² of snow load. Graz is a university city with a large international community, and the questions we get from people who have recently arrived are always the same three: what am I allowed to build, what does it really cost with installation included, and who deals with the German paperwork. This page answers them in that order.

Building law in Styria: 40 m² and a Baumeldung

Styria's rule is unusually clear and more generous than the Carinthian one. Under the Steiermärkisches Baugesetz, roofing over car parking spaces is generally free of permit up to a total area of 40 m², or a maximum of two parking spaces per building plot (Bauplatz) — but it is subject to notification: before you start you file a written building notification (Baumeldung) with your municipality (Gemeinde); in Graz the city's building authority (Baubehörde) handles it. Both our single carport (about 18.8 m²) and the double (34.4 m²) stay inside that limit, which is why the double is the most common choice here. The three-space carport (50 m²) is over the line and normally needs a full permit (Baubewilligung).

Setback distances to the boundary and the local development plan (Bebauungsplan) apply either way, and a few municipalities have their own additions. The summary here is as at 2026 and without guarantee: the Gemeinde decides your case, so ask before ordering. Installation zones: Deutschlandsberg to Hartberg

Installation is priced by road distance from the works in fixed zones, never per kilometre, and the surcharge applies once per order. Deutschlandsberg is 90 km away over the Soboth road and falls in zone 2 (+150 € incl. VAT). Graz (130 km), Leibnitz (105 km) and Leoben (150 km) are zone 3 (+300 €). Weiz (160 km), Kapfenberg (165 km) and Hartberg (195 km) are zone 4 (+450 €). The whole province lies inside our 350 km installation radius, so if your town is not listed here it is still covered; the binding zone for your address appears as soon as you enter your postcode on the installation page.

Designed for the Mürz valley, relaxed in Graz

The reason we do not vary the design by district is that a carport is bought once and stands for decades. The statics that carry an Upper Styrian winter also carry the Graz basin, with a reserve that you hopefully never need — and the hot-dip galvanising, done in a bath rather than sprayed on, is what keeps the frame from rusting where road salt spray reaches it. Prices, lead time and what you prepare

The single carport measures 5.6 × 3.36 m and starts at 5,490 €, the double 5.6 × 6.15 m at 8,570 €, the three-space version 5.6 × 8.92 m at 11,540 €, all including 20 % Austrian VAT (USt). Installation adds 2,750 to 3,850 € depending on the size, plus the zone surcharge. Production takes approx. 4 weeks, then we agree a date; the crew usually completes the work in one working day.

The foundations are yours to prepare — point or strip footings to the plan we supply, described in the foundation guide. Installation is optional: order the carport for delivery alone if a local firm is going to erect it.
